Islands Are Born Maia Macdonald

Islands are ephemeral, created today, destroyed tomorrow. With few exceptions, they are the result of the violent, explosive, earth-shaking eruptions of submarine volcanoes, working perhaps for millions of years to achieve their end.

It is one of the paradoxes in the way of earth and sea that a process seemingly so destructive, so catastrophic in nature, can result in an act of creation"
rachel carson, the sea around us: chapter 7, the birth of an island

I spent 2008-2009 writing and recording "Islands Are Born", an EP that meditates on the isolation created within relationships and the impact of geography on a life.

Islands Are Born
On March 6th, 2009, Brooklyn singer-songwriter and drummer Maia Macdonald released Islands Are Born, her most ambitious and polished work to date.

The album was recorded and mixed in Jersey houses, in fits and starts over the course of 2008. The seven songs meditate on the forces that make people stagnate or take flight, the isolation within relationships, and the reality of plans changed.
